A little visit from Ike.....

Hurricane Ike has brought some excitement to the Texas coastline, especially the Houston area. My parents were under mandatory evacuation in my hometown of La Porte, TX, where I spent my life from age 12-25. It was weird seeing news reports that the city of 32,000 was evacuated. They made it safely to Round Rock, outside of Austin, to stay with my aunt and uncle there. My sister and her family also went there as well. Mom called me yesterday afternoon to say that neighbors that had stayed said the house looked okay. Some shingles off, and debree from the tree in the front yard, but they only had view from the front of the house. I can't believe that old tree made it. Hopefully in the next few days they will be able to go home and assess the damage themself. Power is supposed to be off still, so they will stay put for now.

Here in the Dallas suburbs, we saw some of the rain bands come through, but no high wind or flooding in our neck of the woods. April and I actually went to two birthday parties that day, too! I am just really glad that my family is safe and alive. I am glad they heeded the warnings and left. I would much rather have them alive then the houses there any day. I pray that everything is pretty good when they get home. I haven't heard if my sister heard from any of her neighbors about their house. She is only a mile or 2 from the Houston Ship Channel bridge in Pasadena. Mom and Dad are I think about 5 miles or so from Galveston Bay.

Mark mentioned to me last night a wonderful song that I sang to myself...."I will praise you in this storm, and I will lift my hands...that you are who you are...no matter where I am. And every tear I cry, you hold in your hands. You never left my side, and though my heart is torn....I will praise you in this storm."

I do praise you, Lord Jesus, for keeping us all safe.
