Ah, to be on vacation! Today has been a beautiful day, and the weather has been perfect. We left this morning at 5am. Yes, Terry set her alarm for 4:30am (before noon, Aunt Mary) and was actually up and alert until 6am, when I crashed....sound asleep in the car! In that time, we made it from home and were in Arkansas by the time I woke up. We made a quick pit stop in Hope, Arkansas, and planned on a lunch stop in Memphis, TN. We decided to do a special lunch, so we went to the Hard Rock Cafe there. It was really nice. Guess what....it was my FIRST time to go to Hard Rock Cafe. Mark said WHAT??? so that clinched it. It was a little pricier than we thought, but we got some nice pictures there.
After eating lunch, we were headed off to our pit stop for the night in Dickson, Tennessee. I have to admit that I love driving through Tennessee, and we're not even through the prettiest part of the drive yet. I love all the trees, and the windy roads, and the hills. We're taking a different way around the Great Smokey Mountains this year, but I can't wait to see them again. So we arrived in Dickson, checked into the hotel, rested up a bit, walked across the street to McDonalds for dinner, then came back for some swimming in the indoor pool. Now we are relapsing in our room watching a bit of Spongebob.
We should be leaving here about 7:30am tomorrow to head to the Nortons house in Thomasville, NC. The kids have done awesome together in the car with each other....watching videos on their MP3 players mostly, but April also read one or two of her Junie B. Jones books.
And so, this closes day one on our 11 day journey. I will blog more tomorrow!
